Career Resource Center (CRC)

Jiva is a career counselling and livelihood planning initiative from The Promise Foundation. In the past, our children from Class X have been part of the one-day workshop conducted by Promise Foundation and each child has also received a comprehensive profile and report. Their approach to career development is not only limited to matching individuals to courses and jobs, but also extends to providing students with a framework that would link their potentials with career development.

Jiva is implemented in our school for Class 10, through eight, ninety-minute workshops for each section.

An important aspect of this effort is an attempt to turn to our own culture for guidelines related to healthy career development. Our traditions do not describe ‘careers’. Instead they point us toward work being an extension of our lives. Hence the name Jiva to describe this programme.

The family and parents are vital forces in the young person’s career development and it is imperative to encourage their participation.

How parents of Class X students can participate?

  • The child will come home with a Jiva folder and worksheets from each workshop. It is important for the parent to go through the child’s career development work and add their comments and suggestions.
  • The child may come to a parent with questions about their career and their views about work. Please participate and send back your opinions.
  • A parent of the school is welcome to join any of the workshops as an observer. Please contact the school for the dates and timings of these workshops.
  • A Careers Fair is one of the important elements of the programme. Please participate in it as a speaker or a participant. Please have an open mind to allow your child to be exposed to different careers on that day.
  • A parent workshop will be conducted each year at the end of the programme and would like parents to be present.

All students will receive a careers report at the end of the programme, which will give you a summary of his/her profile and career development pathway.
