Counselling
The school offers counselling facilities to its students, in a safe and confidential environment. This gives students a chance to voluntarily explore, and analyze, feelings that may not be working for them. Often poor academic performance or dramatic changes in the level of academic performance, are indicators of deeper emotional, psychological or psychiatric turmoil that the student may be going through but may not be able to articulate. Bullying, teasing, relationship conflicts, the demands of peer pressure at school and performance pressure at home, an unstable home environment, parental conflict, sexual abuse, growing up and the need and desire to individuate are only some of the stresses confronting our children – not to mention those created by the unsafe world we live in. Many mental illnesses also surface during the adolescent years. How they deal with these problems, and carve out a world for themselves that energizes them, can make all the difference between their success and failure as adults. At Kumarans it is our endeavour to facilitate this process.
The counsellor is available to meet parents who may have some concerns about how their children are performing in school or at home. The counselor also handles any untoward incident or situation that may come up on account of any one child’s behavior, or on account of global/local events that are outside the purview of our control. Group counseling to allay the children’s anxieties provide an environment for airing concerns which helps alleviate these anxieties.
Counselling also helps them build their self-esteem and confidence and learn life skills that will help them enrich their lives.
