
The "International Award for Young People” formerly known as the "Duke Of Edinburgh’s
Award Programme” presents young people with an individual challenge. Started
in 1956 and spread across 75 countries, it is dependent on the support and encouragement
of adults. Through a balanced non-competitive programme, young people are encouraged
to strive for personal qualities of self reliance, perseverance and responsibility to themselves
and to society in general.
It throws open the challenge to young people between fourteen and twenty-five years
of age and is a voluntary programme which involves leisure-time activities.
The programme is divided into three levels.
The students of class IX & X are the award aspirants who are eligible for the
Bronze AwardUnder each level, the award aspirant is entitled to complete one or more activity:
1. Service
Those who achieve an Award receive the appropriate badge and Certificate at an Award Presentation Ceremony.
The operating authority may at its discretion allow young people at the age of 13 ½ years to enter the programme at Bronze level, but they shall not qualify until they reach 14 ½ years of age. All activities should be carried out at leisure time. Participants following activities within their own particular organization may count for Award purposes provided the appropriate conditions are fulfilled.
Once the aspirants have completed silver can enroll themselves for the SILVER LEVEL followed by GOLD LEVEL. Those interested youngsters can enroll directly for GOLD LEVEL provided they have completed 18 years at the time of enrolment.
